The FDA will now make it possible for consumers to
choose between unpasteurized and pasteurized juices at the grocer. However,
that unpasteurized juice will be treated with a germ killing process with
techniques such as ultraviolet light or a special cleaning of the fruit.
Don't expect GMO, or genetically-modified foods, to be labeled as such in the future. It was expected that the federal government would require this action during 2001. The Feds say there is no positive way to determine if GM-grown contents have been added to a food, or that a GM-process has been used during the growing or preparing process.
