Many of us are clueless when it comes to preparing for job interviews. We can often blow ourselves out of the water within the first minute of the interview when we're not prepared. Here are some logical tips: - Do some research about the company. - Arrive to the interview location 10 minutes prior to the appointment time. - Dress to make your mom proud. Consider a suit, unless the company you may work for would find that uptight look objectionable. Take the neutral or above average approach to your look. - Don't ask about pay or benefits during the interview. - Don't lie about anything. - Don't be afraid to say, "I'm sorry, I don't know the answer to that." - Never complain about a former employer. - If you've been fired from a previous job, say so and don't twist reality. - The first thing on a potential employers mind is why they shouldn't hire you. Get past the first pool and then an employer is more likely to ask themselves why they should hire you. If you've been at your present job a long while without a future focus, MATATAN suggests getting a copy of the ever-popular, yet updated, "What Color Is Your Parachute? 2001: A Practical Manual for Job-Hunters and Career-Changers", by Richard Nelson Bolles. |
