At
one time the furniture retailer, Heilig-Meyers, had 1,250 stores. The company soon plans to close the remaining 375 nationwide stores. During uncertain economic times, many furniture retailers will see depressed sales. Follow Matatan's tips for furniture purchases: - A typical furniture shopper will find items they like on a showroom floor and then place an order for delivery two to three months later. Up to half of the cost of the order will need to be deposited with the store. Only pay that deposit with a credit card, or with the in-store credit plan. Never give a store a check as the deposit. If a personal check is the only method of payment accepted, shop elsewhere. - If you have not received delivery of your furniture in less than 60 days, or 7 weeks, contact your credit card company, or the store credit plan to dispute the deposit charges. You must dispute the charges in writing. - If you fail to dispute the charges within 60 days, you will lose your rights to a chargeback. You may never receive your goods either. - When shopping going-out-of-business sales, know that national liquidators come in to complete the sale of all merchandise while operating under the famous retailer name. Liquidators often bring in furniture from other outlets and mark up prices to inflated levels. Don't expect great deals at liquidations sales. |
