about every major U.S. airline has reported losses for the first-quarter of this year. Empty seats are spurring great discounts for summertime travel. Hotel occupancy rates are also on the decline, but the hotel industry is taking a different stand. Most major cities, such as in northern California and south Florida regions, are actually raising prices in an attempt to recoup losses. Marriott hopes to counter the slump in occupancy will rising nightly rates. Where's the logic here? During the 90's, hotel rates adjusted based on demand. MATATAN predicts that there will be a turn-around in the next 45 days with softening prices. MATATAN gives these tips on booking a hotel: - Never walk into a hotel lobby with your luggage and ask for a deal. You're a captive audience and you won't get the best rate. - Upon arrival to a town or city, call instead directly to the hotel for a more favorable rate. - Visit http://www.ExitGuide.com for online discounts for off-highway hotel locations nationwide. Most discounts apply for last-minute stays. - When phoning a hotel toll-free number, exclaim with enthusiasm when you are giving a too high nightly rate. "Pay what? Work with me".
